Leading a Team to Asia

on Tuesday, 12 June 2012.

by Ben MacAdam

Have you ever been put into a situation where you found yourself out of control and unprepared, but you realized that God put you there in order to grow you and those around you? Well, that is what leading my first DTS outreach felt like this Winter in China and Mongolia. Oh, please don't think this was terrible. It was an amazing trip and this is right where God wanted us; to rely on His supernatural ability to lead us and see His all-sufficient grace at work in our lives on this journey.

It was quite an adventure to travel to the Tibetan plateau and icy Mongolia in the middle of winter, where conditions can be harsh, and bitter-cold. And as we were tested by the elements, we were also tried emotionally with team challenges as well as cultural barriers we all had to overcome as a team. It was exciting to see how God was using each team member to help sand away rough edges within our hearts that sometimes we didn't even know were there. But, through the difficulties, we became very close in heart and in unity. We were able to put aside any differences while laying down our own rights for the greater joy of sharing the gospel with many.

This was a great experience to test my leadership abilities and to help me grow. I encourage anyone who wants to go to the next level in leadership to go to a difficult unreached area of the world with a team of zealous young people who are ready to change the world on outreach. But, you just might be surprised to find out that it is your life that will be forever changed. And it will all be "to the praise of His glorious grace" (Eph. 1:6).

If you know of anyone who would like to be challenged in new ways please let them know about our DTS this upcoming fall. Or maybe you are ready to take the plunge yourself. Just give us a call or e-mail us!

A DTS Testimony

Doing a Discipleship Training School here at YWAM Dayton was one of the best decisions I made in my life. It stretched, formed, and molded me into the person I am today. At first it was a struggle to be under authority again. I had homework and a curfew once again after I had already been on my own for over a year. It was hard to submit to the staff and leaders here, but God was healing me all through the DTS, and by the last month, He crushed my pride and called me to be a better student. Learning to be a better student taught me how to be a better leader.

During outreach, God really showed me what a good leader is. He taught me so much from my outreach leaders and my own actions. Some was good and some was bad, but I am grateful for the amazing experience we all had. We went to China and Mongolia for about 6 weeks and it was great. God grew me in ways that I didn't know I could. He taught me so much, including that His grace is sufficient for my mistakes and failures. It is only by His grace that I made it through this school. I loved it and I'm not leaving YWAM Dayton for a very long time.

DTS Team

Written by YWAM Dayton on Saturday, 30 January 2010.

This past week has been filled with quite a bit of trial for the team.

Our main outreach this week was teaching at a local Re-hab center. Each student and staff member had chosen at least one topic on which they were to speak for 1 hour.

The topics we taught were: Quiet Times, Hearing God's Voice, The Character and Nature of God, Freedom in Christ, Purity of Heart, Lordship and Family....
